The Global Veterinary Ethics Congress [GVEC]

"A Voice of the Voiceless"

The Animal Kingdom needs this voice for a multitude of reasons!

We are international in scope and nature, while being disciples of the many who have come before us, to assure a quality of life without pain for all the members of the Animal Kingdom!

Whether it be companion animal; farm animal; zoo species; aquaria; avian; or wildlife the veterinary community has taken an oath to bring the most up to date medical  and surgical care to these species; and  prevent extinction with  habitat adjustment and sanctuary creation.

The Global Veterinary Ethics Congress is creating an on-going discussion with One Health to be sure that veterinary medicine continues a strong union with human medicine. This has many sub-divisions including innovations in care; world health; and research.  The Global Veterinary Ethics Congress does all of this with a mission of Empathy and Compassion.

As the GVEC continues to grow internationally, our voice will become a message board of positive change! One of our mantras is "Only Positive Thoughts Guide Us To New Heights."

The United States has become a split country after this recent Presidential election.  I read terrible comments about our present President and our proposed President elect.  It is not just negativity but the words chosen by top dignitaries of each party are appalling.  The media and social platforms have contributed to this hate in America.  I am not here to judge our President or President elect but only to state the obvious....."Only Positive Thoughts Guide Us to New Heights!

We are living in a pandemic that has changed our way of life. Social distancing; masks; loss of life; and new waves of infection are part of our daily lives.

Our clients are not working; some have lost their businesses; and the veterinary world has had to adapt.  Curbside care; telemedicine; and following comprehensive CDC Guidelines are just a few changes noted in companion animal practice.  All of the Animal Kingdom has faced major changes in care during this time of pandemic.

The pandemic has brought fear, anxiety, and loss of our loved ones.  The confinement has added to mental health issues and alcohol abuse.  With an international vaccination program lurking, there is light at the end of this ugly subterranean tunnel in which we are being held captive.

"Only Positive Thoughts Guide us to New Heights" and will allow us to become free from the prison of the pandemic.  We pray as Christian, Jew, and atheist for the loved ones lost and those left behind living in great pain because of COVID-19.

Finding the Meaning of Life:

We lost a Canadian born and American adopted beacon of light in Alex Trebec this past weekend.

I will not repeat his biography but I will tell you something about his life besides being the host of "Jeopardy" for 36 years.

In addition to his "Jeopardy!" hosting duties, Trebek also moderated the National Geographic Bee for 25 years. National Geographic Society, credited Trebek with making it a prominent national broadcast.
"He's been a great spokesperson in terms of knowing about our world and inspiring others to care about it," said Mary Lee Elden, then the executive director of geography competitions, before Trebek's last bee in 2013.
Trebek, who grew up in Ontario, also supported The Royal Canadian Geographic Society and its youth contest, the Canadian Geographic Challenge, which he helped launch.
"I love working with young people, and seeing how bright these young geographers are," he told the RCGS. "All events are geographic. They affect us directly."
Trebek was an RCGS Fellow and Gold Medal recipient. In 2016, the nonprofit named him Honorary President, and a few years later renamed its prestigious geographic literacy award after him.
"Alex has done so much for geographic literacy over the course of his career," said John Geiger, CEO of the RCGS. "He has helped to inspire thousands of young people to learn more about our country and our planet."  He supported many charities as a philanthropist.
The Global Veterinary Ethics Congress will seek to bring a great world a little closer together.  Where there is division we will seek common ground; where there is hatred we will offer ways to share a common spirit; and where there is dissent we will seek compromise.
There will be student chapters of the Global Veterinary Ethics Congress in veterinary universities throughout the world. As Alex has inspired thousands of young people to learn more about our country and our planet, the GVEC will bring thousands of young people into community with the wonders of the Animal Kingdom.
Today is our day!  It is a day of bringing positive thoughts to new heights!
